Our Guide to Bikes

Mountain Bikes

Mountain bikes are sturdy bikes with tough frames, good brakes, lots of gears and knobbly tires, which ensures they are perfect for riding off the beaten track! They usually come with suspension as it makes riding more comfortable and it can increase traction. However that is not always the case, some have rigid forks and frames.

City Comfort Bikes

Although mountain bikes are sturdy and reliable, they are not suited to nipping around the traffic in town centres. The tyres on a mountain bike, may not be suited to Britain’s roads, so changing the adding slick tyres to a similar frame makes these bikes perfect for commuters to weave through the traffic.

Normally these bikes tend to leave the racks and mud guards, have internal gears, and thus lower servicing demands. These bikes look quite chunky, however they are still sleek and fast.

Hybrid and Trekking Bikes

Hybrid and trekking bikes were created to match the needs of the average biker. They take elements from mountain bikes, tourers and racing bikes to do this.

These bikes are suitable for most types of riding, tarmac riding, longer journeys whist still suitable for some off-road tracks. They come in a range of frames and usually have a gents and ladies version.

Road Racing Bikes

Road racing bikes are specially designed to go as fast as possible on tarmac. Tyres are very thin and at very high pressure. Racing bikes have many gears, which are often close together so that the perfect gear can be chosen for whatever condition is thrown at you. They seating position is designed to be aerodynamic, which is hunched over causing less wind resistance. Although this is the perfect position to help you go faster- it is not the best position to see where you are going!
